it’s weird as hell getting older, watching your face change. you expect it you know, but it’s still weird. noticing the little changes. the difference in the muscles and the lines and the spots.
i cycled in to work today. 7.5 miles there. cycled home. 7.5 miles back. into the hot shower, makeup all smudged, hair shoved back into a clip and a headband (wow, my hair is finally long enough to put it back into a clip - time to chop it all off again). odd time to take a self portrait right? well, this is reality. this is 43.
this is life.
I’ve known and been working with C!nder for years now, and while I’ve always loved his work, he’s really been kicking everything up a notch lately. This piece - “Tomorrow Forever” - will be showing at Vox Sacramento for our February show. Vox is located at 1818 11th Street, Sacramento, CA. The show opens on February 11th, 4-9 p.m.
Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, 1961.
Joan, a 19 year old Freedom Rider, was sentenced to two months in prison for her involvement in the integration of a Jackson, Mississippi bound train. She served more than the required two months because each addition day reduced her $200 fine by $3.
In the Fall of 1961, Joan transferred from Duke University to historically black Tougaloo Southern Christian College because she felt integration should be a two way street.
Today Joan is a retired teaching assistant living in Virginia and mother to five sons. After the 2008 election she brought her Obama pin to the grave of Medgar Evers.
Everything about this.
